I love the combination between walnuts and plum jam, or any jam.
Tartlets are mini tarts that take a little longer to make but look good and are easy to grab and eat on the go. I believe this is a well-known recipe, particularly in Romania, and you can use any type of jam or even apples.
Although it’s not specifically a holiday dessert, I think it would look good on a platter of cakes and cookies.
Walnuts&plum jam tartlets
If you like the combination between walnut and jam, this is it! These tartlets are easy to make but so sweet and delicious.
Ingredients
For the dough
- 4 egg yolks
- 100 g sugar
- 200 g butter
- 2 vanilla sugar
- 10 g baking powder
- 400 g flour
- zest of 1 lemon
- 5 tbsp sour cream
For the topping
- 4 egg whites
- 150 g sugar
- 200 g ground walnuts
Instructions
For the dough
- In a bowl cream the butter with sugar and the egg yolks until smooth.
- To this add the vanilla sugar and the lemon zest.
- Whisk the flour with baking powder.
- Add the flour to the wet ingredients, and the sour cream 1 tbsp at a time and mix together.
For the topping
- Beat the egg whites until they start to be fluffy then add the sugar a little at time and beat until the egg whites are firm.
- Add the ground walnuts and mix it. If you like you could place the mixture into a pipping bag or if you don't have one you can put it with a teaspoon.
- Make small balls from the dough and place it in the tartlets shapes, be sure to mold the dough into the shape.
- Add 1tsp of jam or even more if you prefer.
- On top add the meringue with walnuts.
- Bake it at 180°C for 25 minutes or until the edges are slightly brown.
